All Hands: Yankee Whaling and the U.S. Navy – July 9th

Join author, scholar, and curator of maritime history Michael P. Dyer on Thursday July 9th at 6:00 in the Program Room as he offers a new interpretation of an important theme in American maritime history: the intersections between U.S. whaling and the United States Navy. From South America to the Indian Ocean, across the Pacific and into the waters of Siberia and Alaska, whalers along with the Navy together helped establish a core American maritime cultural identity around the world. This presentation is a direct result of maritime history done through the study of three-dimensional objects, fine and decorative arts and cartography. Michael has served as Curator of Maritime History while working with three of the greatest nautical themed collections in the country, including Mystic Seaport Museum, the New Bedford Whaling Museum, and the Kendall Whaling Museum.
